Rantish Ramblings | What It’s Like Being a Full-Time Student as Well as an Author

Hello, wonderful readers!

Yesterday marked the end of my first semester in college, and boy, was it challenging! That’s the biggest reason for my absence on this blog, and I thought now would be a good opportunity to talk about the challenges there are with trying to be an author as well as a full-time college student. This post won’t have much structure like my other ones, and will be a bit more rambly.

When I first started college, I naively assumed that I would be able to write a full-length novel as well as keep up with all my coursework. Well, surprisingly enough (note the sarcasm), that did not work out. I tried NaNoWriMo this year, and was pleasantly surprised with the 17K words I did manage to write as my finals loomed ever nearer. Needless to say, many of writing goals for these past few months have not been met. But I’m learning to be okay with that.

Rose’s Wrath was published senior year od high school, and even that took an insane amount of work. I had to balance school with rigorous editing, as well as looming deadlines for both. While it was a stressful experience, I’m still glad to have done it. But that being said, I now have to write the rest of the books in the series. Yep, I planned this out so incredibly well XD.

The amount of supportive readers and friends I have found since publishing Rose’s Wrath has been overwhelming, and I promise I am continuing to write for you. The prequel will be available soon. *looks at calendar and squints* Sorry, the prequel will be available at some point. *runs away* But in all seriousness, I have a long winter break and plan to have the prequel fully written by then. I’ll be looking for beta readers soon, too 😉

But back to college woes. I had high hopes this fall and really thought I could write a full-length novel in addition to a novella. Yes, exactly. It was an insane idea. But even though I didn’t complete that ridiculously elaborate goal, I’m still proud of what I was able to accomplish. I plotted out the entirety of my next novel (and it’s GOOD, ya’ll) and I’m nearly finished with my novella! With all the free time I now have, I hope to have more details about both soon for you all. Also, I just might release a Christmas short story. Does that interest anyone?

Well, rambling session over! Thank you to all the readers who actually read through that whole thing. I hope you caught even a small glimpse into my rather hectic life, and that it amused you at the very least.

But how about you? Any writing projects you’re dying to rant about? Let me know in the comments!
