I first began to seriously write last December. I had this great story idea; it was all coming together beautifully in my head. What could go wrong?
Then I began to think. I had never finished a story — let alone more than three chapters of one — up until that point. How was this going to be any difference?
That’s when I discovered Wattpad. It has its flaws, but once I posted the first chapter of my story there, it motivated me to keep writing it. Needless to say, I made it past three chapters.
That was last December, nine months ago. Looking back, I would never have thought I’d make it this far.
In December I made a promise to myself. I said I’d make TWWRTW a fifty thousand word novel. At the time it seemed like an impossible task, but I kept with it.
Today I hit fifty thousand words on the first draft.
I have never felt so satisfied about anything. I had told myself I would do this and I did.
The journey to this point has been tough, and many times I thought of giving up entirely. But I didn’t. I stuck with it, and I’m so glad I did.
The end is within sight now — the novel will be between 60 and 70K when completed — and I couldn’t be more ready for it.
To celebrate a milestone in my writing endeavors, I will be sharing the title to a collection of short stories which will be set in the same world as TWWRTW.
This short stories collection will follow the backstory of four characters, as well as one about how the communities began. A companion novel will also — hopefully — be written as well and follow the story of a rather important character, who will be disclosed in a later post.
The title for this collection will be called — if I decide not to change it — Revolution Rising. What are your thoughts on it?
