Poetry | simply put, you

Hello, readers!

It’s my husband’s birthday month and so I thought it fitting to share a poem I wrote about him. I usually don’t post much poetry here, but surprisingly, those posts end up doing really well! Here’s to the man who loves, cherishes, and provides for his two girls who love him so much!

simply put, you

Words barely begin

To skim along the surface

Of how I feel about you

Words like lover

Confidante

Friend

Like paper-mâché

Of all I truly feel

No one has loved me like you

No one gets me like you

No one’s hands hold me close

Find the crooks in my body

The imperfections of my skin

Like you

Hands warm & rough

Eyes golden brown

Mouth like wine and cheese

And all the things that are meant to be

Devoured

It is you whose voice both soothes

And annoys

Beckons me to laugh

And cry

Because your voice has always been

Like a melody written across my skin

All too familiar and lovely

Like a coat I always keep drawn

And all these things could be simplified

I love you

In all the raw & deep

Demure & sweet

Wild & wonderful ways

You are meant to be loved

In both beauty & pain

Heartache & laughter

It is you & I

And for me

Simply put

It is you
