Author Interview With Kara Linaburg

Hello, wonderful readers!

It’s been almost a month and a lot has happened in that time. I moved out, started college, and basically forgot about this blog (sorry!)

Today, though, I have a very special guest to make up for that. Introducing… Kara Linaburg! *crowd cheers* She’s the author of The Broken Prince and the recently released The Crownless King! The Broken Prince is on my tbr for the month, and I can’t wait to share my review with you all in the near future!

1. What was the first story you ever wrote?

Oh…the first story I ever wrote would probably be some princess picture books I put together when I was probably nine or ten years old. I’ve always loved fantasy and adventure, and I was writing stories before I could even spell properly. My first real novel I wrote was an outlaw/westerm that taught me VERY quickly I was not made for the historical genre haha. 

2. Did you always know you would be a published author? If not, when did that become a thought and/or reality?

I’ve always wanted my stories for more than myself, so in a very real sense yes, I’ve always known my stories would be out there somewhere regardless if they had to be on a blog or in a book or printed and handed to friends. My dream job was an author (actually in kindergarten I said it was a midwife but…eh, no), and I knew that I had been created to tell stories to the world. These books in my head had a message of light I wanted those around me to not only hear but truly feel. That passion has only continued. 

3. What was your inspiration for writing The Broken Prince? What do you want people to take away?

I wrote The Broken Prince series beginning in high school (the idea probably forming at sixteen). It was right after I’d finished the Robin Hood BBC television series, and I was stoked to write a fantasy in a similar storyworld. But I remember listening to the song from DC Talk “In the Light” and the idea of light just kept coming up in my brain when I thought about story ideas. I realized that I wanted my stories to always have a strong light vs. dark theme, and I hope that in both The Broken Prince and my upcoming novel The Crownless King (September first 2020 y’all!!) readers will be able to come away with the hope that the light does exist. 

4. If you could spend a day doing whatever you want, (if money wasn’t a problem) what exactly would be the perfect day?

Oh, that’s so hard! A perfect day for me right now would most definitely be at the beach or at the river (either one is perfect) with some close friends and family, just hanging out and swimming on a nice, humid day. I’m an easy person to please, and as long as you hand me nature and the ones I love, I am extremely happy and content. 

5. If you had to choose a decade to visit, what would it be and why?

I would love to visit the 1970s during the Jesus Revolution in California! The idea of revival is such a burning passion within me. I long for peoples’ brokenness to be healed and for them to know how deeply they are loved. I feel like my generation is at a very similar place that my grandparents’ generation was back then, and I hope to see that Revolution of love happen again. 

6. What’s a genre you’ll never write and why?

Historical. I mean I guess I can’t say never, because you can never say never, right? But honestly historical is such a complex genre to get into — I love reading it, but writing it would really kick my butt!

7. If you could bring one of your characters to life, who would it be and why?

Sabriel! Milosh! No, Sabriel — probably Sabriel. Or Nick. OK maybe Nick because I secretly want to marry him. But Sabriel because she’s my spirit character (like spirit animal, but character 😉 ), or Milosh because he deserves all the hugs.

8. Lastly, what’s your next project (if any) and is there anything you can tell us about it?

My next project is semi-secret but is completely different from what I’ve done up to this point. Hints…Sherlock Holmes, young adult, and spinoff. 😉
